While anatomically incorrect, this statement has true metaphorical value. And maybe you’ve been there before and noticed it yourself. You’re hanging out with some friends when you say something seriously stupid.
Uhhhhhh… Where did that come from?
Or perhaps you made a connection between what you said and the movies you’ve been watching. Or maybe it’s the music you’ve been listening to. Or those friends who just haven’t influenced you in the best way. Whatever it is, you’re now in this awkward situation where you feel like a tool and you’re trying to figure out what caused you to say it.
That’s kind of been my situation as of late. Except it’s been more in what I’ve wanted to say, even though it may not have come out of my mouth. I’ll catch it and wonder “where did that come from?” Well I bring this all up so you can chew on this verse. Use it to challenge yourself:
The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart.
-Jesus in Luke 6:45
